Fill in a form from your accountant

How to move through your accountant's form, go back to change an answer, and pick up where you left off.

For your clientsUpdated October 22, 2026 · 3 min read

Your accountant sent you a link to a form. It asks one question at a time, and it works on a phone or a computer. There's nothing to sign up for or install.

Fill in the form

  1. Open the link from your accountant.
  2. If there's a welcome screen, click Start (or the button your accountant named). The welcome screen also says roughly how long the form takes.
  3. Answer the question, then click Continue. On a computer you can press Enter instead.
  4. Keep going until the last question. Its button says Submit.
  5. Click Submit. You'll see a thank-you screen when your answers are sent.

On some questions, picking an answer takes you to the next question by itself. Questions marked Required need an answer before you can go on.

Go back and change an answer

Click the Back arrow at the bottom of the screen. Your answers stay as they are, so you can change one and carry on. Some forms skip questions that don't apply to you, so the questions you see can change when you change an answer.

Stop and come back later

You don't need to finish in one go. As you answer, the form keeps your progress in this browser. Open the same link later on the same device and in the same browser, and you're back at the question you stopped on.

Your progress is kept only in the browser you used. It doesn't follow you to another phone or computer, and it's lost if you clear your browser's history or use a private window. Some browsers also don't keep progress when the form sits inside your accountant's website. If that happens, start again from the beginning.

Good to know

  • Keyboard shortcuts. On a computer, press a letter key (A, B, C…) to pick a choice, or Y and N for yes-or-no questions. In a long answer box, press Shift Enter for a new line.
  • Other languages. If your accountant offers the form in more than one language, choose yours from the Language menu at the top right.
  • Files and documents. These forms don't take file uploads. If your accountant needs documents from you, they'll tell you how to send them.
  • What happens next. If you gave your email address, you'll usually get an email saying your answers arrived. Your accountant may also offer a call to book or a report to pay for on the thank-you screen. See Where is my report?

Why won't the form let me continue?

A message under your answer says what's missing. The most common ones:

  • "Please fill this in": the question is required. Add an answer.
  • "Hmm… that email doesn't look right" or "Hmm… that phone number doesn't look right": check for a typo or a missing part.
  • "Please enter a number" or "Please enter a valid date": type only digits, or pick the date again.
  • "Please fill in the 'Other' option": you picked Other, so type what you meant in the box.

What if my answers won't send?

  • "Couldn't reach the server. Please try again." Your internet connection dropped. Check you're online, then click Submit again. Your answers are still on the screen.
  • "Too many submissions. Please wait a minute and try again." Wait a minute, then submit again.
  • "We couldn't confirm you're not a bot. Please try submitting again." Click Submit again. If it keeps happening, reload the page or try another browser.
  • "This form is not accepting responses." Your accountant has closed the form, or the link is wrong. Contact them for a new link.

If a message keeps coming back, reply to your accountant's email or call them. They can see what went wrong and help.
