Where is my report?

When your report arrives after you fill in a form, how it's sent, and what to check if you can't find it.

After you fill in your accountant's form, they prepare a report from your answers and email it to you. Here's what to expect, and what to do if it hasn't arrived.

What happens after you submit

  1. You get a confirmation. If you gave your email address, you usually get an email titled We've received your answers within a few minutes. It says roughly when to expect your report.
  2. Your accountant prepares the report. Someone at the firm usually reads it before it goes out, so it can take a little while. The confirmation email gives the firm's own timing.
  3. Your report arrives by email. It comes from your accountant's firm, usually with a subject like "Jane, your Tax Opportunity Report is ready". The report is attached as a PDF.

If you paid for your report online, you also get a link to read it on a web page and download it again. See Pay for your report.

Can't find it?

  1. Search your inbox for your accountant's firm name, or for the word "report".
  2. Check your spam or junk folder. If it's there, mark it as "not spam" so the next email lands in your inbox.
  3. Check other tabs or folders. Gmail can put emails under Promotions or Updates, and Outlook can put them in Other.
  4. Check the email address you typed in the form. A small typo means the email went somewhere else.
  5. Give it time. If your confirmation email gave a time frame, wait until it has passed.

Still nothing? Reply to the confirmation email, or contact your accountant directly. They can see whether your report was sent and send it again.

Good to know

  • Keep the email. The PDF attached to it is your copy of the report. Save it somewhere safe.
  • Replies go to your accountant. Reply to the report email with any questions.
  • A reminder may follow. If you haven't opened the report email after a few days, some firms send a short email asking whether it arrived, with the PDF attached again.
  • Unsubscribing doesn't stop your report. If you turned off a firm's reminder emails, you still get the report you asked for. See Stop emails from a firm.

Why didn't I get a confirmation email?

  • You didn't give an email address in the form, or there was a typo in it.
  • The firm doesn't send confirmations for this form.
  • You're paying for your report and haven't finished paying yet. You get a payment email instead once you've paid.

Your answers still reached your accountant if you saw the thank-you screen.

The link only works for reports bought online, and it has to be copied in full. Open it straight from your email rather than copying it. If it still doesn't work, reply to the email and the firm can help.
